In 2004 a 6.5 earthquake shook this rural area of North Africa. Over 600 people were killed and many more injured. The earthquake destroyed many homes and left many weathering the elements living in tents. The winters bring several feet of snow and much rain. The summers bring extreme heat and humidity without the coolness of a home. Many families left the area because of overcrowding and family conflict.
After difficult negotiations, we received permission to remove the rubble of ruined homes in preparation for new houses. The grateful local people worked side by side with volunteers.
By the end of 2007, over 70 families have been assisted in rebuilding homes. They have marveled at the diligent work and the attitudes of the more than 700 visiting volunteers as they work hand in hand with many national men.
The rich and the poor have a common bond, God is maker of them all.
Funding of this project is all through donations and is progressing for 2008. With God’s help and yours we are on track to finishing another 20 homes!
